Matthew Lillibridge, a Maine School Administrative District (MSAD) 11 board member currently running for re-election, appeared to threaten parental rights activist and president of the Courage Is A Habit non-profit, Alvin Lui, with “an AR-15 and a Doberman” in a text message.
“I’ll see how much courage he has if u [sic] answer the door with an AR15 and a Doberman,” said Lillibridge in a group chat acquired by Lui via a Freedom of Access Act (FOAA) request.

Lillibridge, a member of the board representing Gardiner, Pittston, Randolph, and West Gardiner, penned his message in response to an email from Lui. In it, Lui raised concerns about a proposed school medical clinic scheduled to be installed in the Gardiner High School that has drawn scrutiny and concern.
The clinic would allow minors to receive controversial prescription drugs, including cross-sex hormones and psychotropic antidepressants, without parental knowledge or consent.
Lui’s email did not condemn the board or single out any board members. Instead, he offered to provide more information to help the board make the best decisions for the children under their care.
“As stewarts [sic] of other people’s children, you owe it to those you serve to receive all the information before you do something as serious as install a medical clinic in a K-12 facility,” said Lui’s email.
Instead of considering Lui’s offer to provide more information, Lillibridge appeared to threaten violence against him.
Lui told The Maine Wire that he had not had any prior personal interactions with Lillibridge.
“If you read the email, what normal person would respond like that,” asked Lui, when speaking to The Maine Wire.
He told The Maine Wire that people like Lillibridge continue to be elected to serve on school boards for two main reasons: because citizens often neglect local elections and politics, where their votes could otherwise make a significant difference, and because “the entire system emboldens and protects” liberal school board members.
The Maine Wire reached out to Lillibridge for comment on the situation, but the school-board member did not respond.
Lui also discussed the apparent threat in an interview with Megyn Kelly on her SiriusXM show on Wednesday.
“He could have said ‘We’ll see how tough he is, I’ll get in his face, I’ll punch him in the nose, I’ll punch him in the mouth.’ Nope, he went right to the AR15, and this is a school board member who is literally, I’m not making this up Megyn, he’s running again for his seat right now,” said Lui.
Lui’s organization, Courage Is A Habit, posted Lui’s discussion with Kelly on X just one day after Lillibridge posted a flyer promoting his re-election campaign on Facebook.

The flyer celebrates Lillibridge as the “most qualified” candidate for the job, promotes his veteran status, and argues that he is qualified because he has a son in the school system. It does not mention any of his policy priorities. The flyer does use a photograph of his minor child in evident support of his candidacy.
Rep. Laurel Libby (R-Auburn) was recently censured by Democrats for allegedly using the picture of a minor to further her political agenda when she posted a publicly available image of a transgender-identifying male athlete standing victorious over two girls following a pole vault competition.

Lillibridge is far from the only left-wing activist on the Gardiner school board.
The Maine Wire recently covered another board member, Joanne O’Brien, known for her social media tirades against Republican voters, frequently comparing them to Nazis.
O’Brien called publicly for parents who supported President Donald Trump to be forcibly silenced.
“During PRIDE MONTH it is EXPECTED that we show ourselves to be allies to the LGBTQ community by sharing rainbow flags. MAGA’s loud obnoxious parents, who support Trump and his policies of destruction, death, and division, should have been FORCEFULLY SHUT DOWN,” said O’Brien on Facebook.
She also accused girls who are concerned about transgender-identifying males in their locker rooms of bullying.
One social media commentator, Tim Bodnar, who goes by the handle Truth Slinger X, claimed that O’Brien falsely accused him of being violent, thereby barring him from attending MSAD 11 board meetings.
“Those close to Tim Bodnar in particular indicate that he can be violent and relentless. This is more concerning, as he is a second amendment [sic] freak and threatens violence if anyone were to take away his guns,” said a document allegedly written by O’Brien.
The Maine Wire cannot independently verify the veracity of the document or the claims made by Bodnar.
“Joanne O’Brien has LIED on OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS in order to deny my right to free speech at a schoolboard meeting. All lies. No proof given in the complaint. Just wild allegations. This is your schoolboard Gardiner. I will sue them for defamation and falsifying a complaint,” said Bodnar on X.
The MSAD 11 school district is now generating controversy over its planned, in-school medical clinic. This clinic, able to prescribe drugs without parental consent, would be operated by HealthReach, a non-profit organization that made $11.7 million from prescribing drugs in 2023. Those proceeds raise concerns that the clinics could prioritize prescription profits over the well-being of the children under their care, critics of such policies fear.

One clinic in Fairfield’s Lawrence High School previously gave an unmarked bag of Zoloft, an antidepressant pill, to a student without parental knowledge or consent.
When the 17-year-old girl’s father confronted them about the decision, they argued that they were allowed to prescribe drugs without parental knowledge, though they did not address concerns that the pills were not in a properly labeled pharmaceutical bottle.
The growing controversy surrounding Gardiner’s proposed school clinic comes as Maine emerges as Ground Zero in President Donald Trump’s fight against gender ideology in schools, which says a boy can become a girl, compete against girls in sports, and share their locker rooms and bathrooms.
The proposed clinic would be a victory for proponents of gender ideology because it could help minors initiate a gender transition chemically while keeping it a secret from parents who may not support the decision.
