Chinese Communist Party-Backed University Offers To Poach Harvard Foreign Student

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announced recently it will open its doors to foreign Harvard students who may no longer be able to attend the American institution.

The universityโ€™s announcement came on May 23 after the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced it was revoking Harvardโ€™s ability to host foreign students, forcing all current international students to transfer institutions or lose their visa status. HKUST said it will streamline the admissions process for Harvard students and those with offers from Harvard, stating it โ€œemphasizes inclusivity and academic excellence.โ€ (RELATED: Harvard โ€˜Honestyโ€™ Researcher Fired Over Fraud Allegations)

โ€œAs a leading international institution ranked among the top universities globally, HKUST is extending this opportunity to ensure talented students can pursue their educational goals without disruption,โ€ the Hong Kong universityโ€™s announcement reads. โ€œThe university will provide unconditional offers, streamlined admission procedures, and academic support to facilitate a seamless transition for interested students.โ€

HKUST is openly supported by the Chinese government.

HKUST also said it will help students with โ€œvisa logistics,โ€ transferring their credits and finding housing.

โ€œDiversity fuels creativity and progress,โ€ GUO Yike, Provost at HKUST, said in the universityโ€™s statement. โ€œWe are prepared to welcome Harvard students into our community, offering them the resources and vibrant environment needed to thrive in their fields.โ€

Despite the DHSโ€™s announcement, the future of foreign students at the Ivy League university remains uncertain, as a federal court put a pause on the order almost instantly. The Trump administration has since taken other steps to limit radical foreign students in the U.S., including halting any new interviews for student visas and expanding social media screening for foreign applicants.

DHS claimed Harvard fostered a โ€œtoxic campus climateโ€ due to allegedly allowing antisemitism to persist and submitted โ€œinaccurateโ€ foreign funding disclosures. However, university president Alan Garber claimed that the university has been complying with the federal governmentโ€™s requests to tackle the issues. Harvard previously rejected the Trump administrationโ€™s demands to combat antisemitism, saying it would not โ€œrelinquishโ€ its academic freedom and free speech rights and claiming it is managing the issues on its own. The administration immediately hit back with billions in federal funding cuts. (RELATED: Trump Admin To Cut Remaining Contracts With Harvard)

Harvard and HKUST did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation.
