At around 11:24 p.m. on Halloween, Auburn police officers responded to reports that a car had struck Roy’s Foodland at 70 Broad Street and that the vehicle’s occupants were trapped inside.

Police arrived to discover that a 2013 silver Nissan Juke, driven by Casey McKenney, 29, of Auburn, had struck the front of Roy’s Foodland, causing significant structural damage and rupturing a gas line.

Officers found McKenney and her passenger, Gregory Brooks, 48, of Auburn, stuck inside the vehicle.

They were extricated from the vehicle by the Auburn Fire Department and transported to the Maine Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary investigation found that the Nissan was traveling southwest on Broad Street at high speed when McKenney lost control and crashed into the building.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, but they did not announce any charges against the driver.
