Matthew “Nate” Boegel, 27, of Rockland, was incarcerated on charges of felony sexual abuse of minors and violating conditions of release after he was arrested in late October by the Rockland Police Department.
On Tuesday, Rockland police received a complaint alleging that Boegel had engaged in witness tampering activities even while imprisoned.
According to the report, Boegel wrote a letter to another incarcerated suspect, who was set to be released soon, and asked him to deliver it to the victim of Boegel’s alleged sexual abuse.
In the letter, Boegel allegedly urged his minor victim to stop cooperating with law enforcement.
Rockland’s Criminal Investigation Division followed up on the report and eventually charged the still-incarcerated Boegel with felony tampering with a witness, informant, juror, or victim.
Boegel, a registered sex offender, has a lengthy history of sexual crimes against minors.
In 2016, he was reportedly charged with sexually assaulting two girls, aged 12 and 13, when he was 18. He was convicted but only served nine months in prison.
Shortly thereafter, he re-offended and was convicted again of abusing girls between the ages of 14 and 16 and illegally furnishing them with marijuana.
