ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating an early-morning structure fire at a vacant residence in Ellsworth, the second vacant-home fire in the city in the last 11 days.

State fire investigators were called in around 5:51 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 25, after the Ellsworth Fire Department requested assistance with a fire at a vacant residence at 25 Spruce St.

The new investigation comes as an earlier fire at a vacant residence on Water Street, reported Jan. 14, has already been ruled incendiary and remains under active investigation.

The Jan. 25 fire remains under investigation by the Office of the State Fire Marshal, with assistance from the Ellsworth Fire Department and the Ellsworth Police Department.

Anyone with information related to either incident is encouraged to contact the Ellsworth Police Department at 207-667-2168 or the Bangor Regional Communications Center at 207-973-3700. Tips can also be provided anonymously through the Office of the State Fire Marshal’s Arson Hotline at 1-888-870-6162.

Officials said the investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available.
