The Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) is searching for an escapee who allegedly walked off a job site while he was working outside of jail during the day as part of the state’s community work release program.

The MDOC is currently pursuing Brian Day, 45, who was an inmate at the Bolduc Correctional Facility in Warren.

The Bolduc facility is a minimum security and pre-release facility where inmates can participate in the community work program, where they are allowed out during the day to work.

Day reportedly escaped from his job site in Thomaston on Monday.

The MDOC Fugitive Investigation Apprehension Team has been activated to track down Day with help from federal, state, and local law enforcement.

Day was sentenced to three and a half years in prison after convictions for forgery, three counts of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, operating after habitual offender revocation with three prior offenses, and eluding an officer.

Despite his history of fleeing law enforcement, he was sent to the minimum security facility and allowed to work in the community.
