At approximately 7:50 a.m., the Maine State Police Field Troop responded to a report of an assault at the Liberty Town Hall.
Following a subsequent investigation, police developed probable cause for the arrest of Roland Singer, 56, of Liberty.
He was charged with two counts of simple assault against one of the selectboard members and one count of criminal mischief.
The board member who was allegedly assaulted sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
Though the incident took place on Tuesday, the state police only released information on Friday.
They provided few details on the motive or circumstances surrounding the incident and did not specify which board member was assaulted.
The Maine Wire called the Liberty Town Hall for more information, but they are closed on Fridays.
The Maine Wire also reached out to the Waldo County Jail to request a mugshot for Singer, but a jail employee said that they do not have a mugshot because, she believes, he was simply issued a criminal summons and not actually arrested and booked into jail.
