Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Graham Platner on Monday received the endorsement of Planned Parenthood and used the occasion to sharpen his criticism of Sen. Susan Collins, Maine’s Republican incumbent, while making an unusual personal disclosure about his own experience using the organization’s health services.
The most notable moment of the event came when Platner volunteered a personal account of receiving sexually transmitted infection screenings at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Portland when he was younger.
Platner told reporters he had received STI testing through the organization and emphasized that such care should not carry a stigma.
“I got STI checks,” he said. “It’s not an embarrassing thing, it’s a smart thing to do, especially when you’re younger.”
Platner’s remarks come amid scrutiny of his personal conduct following recent reports concerning his past use of the messaging application Kik and allegations relating to infidelity.
Collins, one of the Senate’s most prominent Republicans, has frequently described herself as a supporter of abortion rights while also defending some of her votes related to judicial nominations. She is seeking another term in November.
Platner’s appearance with Planned Parenthood leaders marked one of the highest-profile endorsements of his campaign to date as he seeks to unseat the longtime senator in what is expected to be one of Maine’s most closely watched races.

Did his wife get tested as well?
This guy is a disgusting pig after everything thats come out on him. He is nothing but a leftist created puppet who claims to “represent hard working Mainers” while truth be told he is a privileged rich kid who wouldnt know what a calloused hand looked or even felt like. Working man my A*S
I hope someone is tallying up the Oyster Fuhrer’s lies.
@ Suzannah, I think he might know what a calloused hand feels like, just not from working. Now I am not sure if he can define what a woman is though.
Abortion is murder
GP is a scumbag

Perhaps not, but being sexually promiscuous ought to.
And are we truly expected to believe that the quite wealthy Platner how to make an eight hour round-trip down to Portland for an STD test? That he wasn’t able to obtain a test in Bangor or Ellsworth, or perhaps from his PCP?
I keep thinking of my grandmother and what she would be saying about this man.
Main has, unfortunately, changed….
