A six-unit apartment building in Yarmouth was destroyed in an overnight fire that displaced all of its residents, according to the Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The fire broke out shortly before 11 p.m. on Monday, July 13, when the Yarmouth Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at the apartment building located at 18 Bridge Street.

When firefighters arrived, they found smoke coming from the building’s soffits. As crews investigated further, they discovered an active fire burning in the attic space above the second-floor apartments.

Firefighters worked throughout the night to bring the blaze under control and extinguish the fire.

On Tuesday morning, July 14, investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene at the request of the Yarmouth Fire Department to assist with determining the cause of the fire.

Investigators concluded that the fire originated in the attic space and ruled the blaze accidental.

The apartment building has been declared a total loss, and all tenants have been displaced.

No injuries were reported.
