An Enfield fugitive was arrested last Tuesday after he was allegedly found by Penobscot Sheriff’s deputies in a Dollar General with a significant amount of illegal drugs.

At approximately 9:00 p.m., a Penobscot deputy spotted Alton Whitney, 45, in the Enfield Dollar General.

The deputy knew that Whitney was subject to three active arrest warrants on felony theft charges and arrested him without incident.

The deputy searched Whitney during the arrest and allegedly found him in possession of nearly 70 grams of methamphetamine.

During the investigation, deputies also seized a lockbox and, after obtaining a warrant, searched it.

Inside, they allegedly found additional illegal drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and prescription pills.

Whitney was charged with violating conditions of release and multiple drug charges in addition to the felony theft charges stemming from his warrants.

He was previously arrested in Passadumkeag when he was allegedly found with over 100 grams of methamphetamine.
